Prenatal massage is a safe way for women to get some much needed relaxation during the months of pregnancy. It can help reduce anxiety, pregnancy specifics body aches, reduce stress, and ease muscle tension. You can get a massage at any time during your pregnancy. However, through the first trimester much care is taken to make sure we avoid any issues that may arise. Prenatal massage uses mild pressure similar to Swedish massage. The therapist will focus on areas such as your hips, glutes or buttocks area and legs you can be fully or partially undressed depending on your comfort level. During the massage, you’ll lie on your side fully supported and comfortable with proper pillowing or have the option to use the pregnancy cushion which allows you to lay on your stomach, the cushion grows with you so there is never any pressure on the belly! Most pre and postnatal massages include a breast massage which is optional. However your breasts are one of the first things to change once you become pregnant, from the sensitivity to the uncomfortable feeling of growing and fullness later on in the pregnancy. This type of Massage can help to alleviate some of /or all of these symptoms, using specific techniques we are able to being more comfort. Regarding postnatal breast massage it allows the release of oxytocin which helps the mother to relax, opening up and unclogging her ducts, thereby increasing the flow and production of milk.
